Updated: Nov 8, 2023

Daria Nepriakhina

Being a student, I faced so many challenges that there were times I needed to seek motivation. These books ask you to take that pain, accept that it is yours but do not give it the power to control you or become greater than you are!

I have read most of the books on the list. And I have found one thing common in the self-help or motivational books; they are not all positive. They take you to the pain and struggles that you could not have imagined or to those that are very much familiar to you.

I do not want to share the best books trending or the most popular books. As it is incredibly hard to keep up a positive attitude amidst the Chaos of Corona, as I like to call it, I am sharing the ones that left an impact on shaping my mindset.

Here are some of the books that I read and re-read in the past few weeks. These books helped me understand different circumstances, people, and helped me to stay calm as well! I hope you enjoy reading them! And do share your photos if you have read the same books! I Will love to see them!

12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos

An Antidote to Chaos

Would it not be easy to live life if the rules were somewhat simpler or limited? Jordan B. Peterson is a clinical psychologist, and in this book, he attempted to narrow down the different rules of life. To be honest, he speaks about a lot of things in this book, just like our lives.

Professor Jordan Peterson explains why society has a hierarchy and where it comes from biologically and ancestral history. He explains that chaos is inevitable in our lives, and at any point in time, the purpose is to create order no matter what the problem is.

I have seen people react in a repulsive way when I mention his name as a clinical psychologist, but trust me on this people, this will be one of the eye-opening books for you!

Becoming

I am hopeful you have already heard of this book. If you have read it and appreciated it, then welcome to the club! This book made me fall in love with Michelle Obama as an individual and personality. She is a storyteller of self-reflection of her journey and experiences.

Michelle Obama

She shares about her childhood to balancing her life as a mother and an executive. She tells about her accomplishments and disappointments as well, both in her private and public life.

The Lean Startup

Are you a sleepless entrepreneurial mind? Then this book should be at your nightstand all the time! This book is a masterpiece for understanding entrepreneurship.

The Lean Startup

The book has broken down the different steps and levels of an entrepreneurial journey, for a startup and entrepreneur.

It is a must-have book if you are planning to start something on your own or if you have already stepped into the world of entrepreneurship.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad

One of the things that I learned in life after reading this book was learning financial literacy is important, along with schooling or higher studies. It might sound like a book for investors, but hey everyone needs money, right? And you need to understand how to make the most of whatever you have with you and when you can multiply it, that’s even better!

Rich Dad in the book is the father who knows how to manage money even when he is not educated. He speaks of experience and encourages to take that risk you have been thinking to consider.

Poor dad is educated dad, well he is not poor in absolute terms since he is a professor, but he is always struggling with money. The book shows the difference in the mindset of these dads and helps us, the readers, understand our mindset as well!

The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, is a brilliantly crafted novel portraying a nation that is on the verge of destruction. This book will definitely take your mind and heart from imagining the beauty of cities in Afghanistan to the sheer terror the country faces later.

The Kite Runner

The story revolves around the power of being educated, the cost of deception, the chances of correcting mistakes and the meaning of being wise. The story also portrays the essence of being a father, the love and sacrifices they give for their young ones.

Personally, this book has made me feel fortunate for the life I got, and I have; helped me become grateful than I ever was. This book gave me a glimpse of terror in my imagination and let me understand the meaning of kindness.

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

The subconscious mind is like a powerhouse for your thoughts that guide your actions. The subconscious mind is the ringmaster for your thoughts and actions. But the information stored in the subconscious mind comes from what you see, read, listen, speak and experience in your conscious state. It is important to look into things you like rather than focusing on what you don’t have. Looking for solutions instead of spiraling down in problems.

Power of Your Subconscious Mind

That’s something this book will help you realize through different examples and experiences the author, Joseph Murphy, has gained. It is an eye-opener to understand how our mind functions! A must-read!

The Secret

The Secret explains the power and law of attraction in the universe. The click of this book is that the universe is the genie and it does grant your wishes only when you know how to ask for it. The Secret helps you to self-reflect on how you have been projecting your energy to the environment around you.

Personally, the first thing that I changed saying to myself was instead of saying “Oh no! I will be late again”, I started saying “I will be on time!” and that did make a difference over time! I could explain the book here for you, but I would prefer if you read it and experience it for yourself.

The Secret
